Published in the year 2003, Kite Runner is a story about two young boys from different backgrounds and their uncanny friendship in a moment of crisis and turmoil. The novel revolves around the young boy named Amir, son of a wealthy Wazir and Hassan who belongs to the much despised Hazara community and whose father is a servant to Amir’s father. However, the two kids, despite their differences, continue to be the best of friends and great partners at flying kites.

Khaled Hosseini, an American writer of Afghan descent, was an experienced medical practitioner before being consumed by a world of letters. Kite Runner, a critically-acclaimed international bestseller, is his first novel. He later wrote two other acclaimed novels, ‘A Thousand Splendid Suns’ and ‘And The Mountains Echoed’.
He is also the founding member of the non-profit organization ‘The Khaled Hosseini Foundation’ which aims at extending humanitarian support to the people of Afghanistan. He is also a Goodwill Envoy to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
